Join me for the Taste of Home Cooking School with the Evansville Courier and Press on Friday Nov. 14th from 4pm til the end.   The Center is a great place to come and see Chef Dana cook up some specialties that you can easily duplicate.  It is always a great time and you will have the chance to win a great appliance or other prizes.  I am the emcee and would love to see everyone there.  You never know....I may be calling your name as a big prize winner.  Thanks to everyone at the Courier and Press for asking me to host the show.  I love the people there.

It might not sound right to you, but the uninformed shouldn’t vote. If you can’t pass a basic test about our government, stay home next Tuesday.

How many senators are working for us in congress? Ok, that’s a trick question and the answer is none of them (lol). Can you name the three branches of government? Have you ever read the constitution? What does the county commission do? Did you watch any of the debates? How about attending a candidate’s forum?

Some of the uninformed will simply vote straight ticket. Why? Because it’s all about the party. But what about the non-partisan races? Some of the uninformed will vote based on what they’ve heard in the steady drone of political commercials. Still o ... Read More »

I'm so sick of negative ads for political office.  I'm almost to the point of not voting for anyone because they are all so out to lunch.  As my daddy used to say....Their rear end is out of their underwear!  The major problem with these ads, besides being sophmoric and stupid, is they don't educate the public about what a candidate stands for and what a candidate pledges to do.  The ads just focus on things the other person has or has not done.  Many times an ad will talk about something the candidate voted for when the issue was a minor shoestring amendment to a bill that had a major, important thing in it which needed to be voted for.  Sometimes a politician has to vote for something he or she would rather not because the other more important issue needs a yes vote.  These slim balls that slip in these shoestring amendments need to be dealt with too.  I say lets make it a law that candidates can not do neg ... I have a suggestion... Those cooling towers at the Civic Center would be great advertising space... Let's sell a sponsorship and rename our place of government, "The RC Cola Civic Center." Click on the readf more link for a larger image of the facelift on the cooling tower.

While the Christian faith tells us that good works alone won't get us to Heaven, we are called to be a reflection of God's love here on Earth.

One of those who recently reflected God's love is Jimmy Lefler. He put his faith in action to assist some recent crime victims.

While participating in Race for the Cure, some people returned to their cars to find that they were victims of theives who smashed windows to snatch items from the vehicles.

After hearing this story, Lefler's Body Shop offerd to cover the deductable for those crime victims. Jimmy said that they didn't deserve to be punished for doing something good for the community.

What a great way to put your faith in action, thanks Jimmy!

Race for the Cure was a huge success! About 18,000 people took part, making it one of the largest Komen events in the nation.

This success relies on hundreds of volunteers who put their heart and soul into support the cause. I want to thank those who worked behind the scenes to make Race for the Cure possible.

I know that some people disagree with some of the research and causes that Komen supports, but they fulfill one fundimental need for those with breast cancer: Hope. That hope exists because a small army of people are willing to give their time and talents to serve those who need that hope.

There's joy in serving!

All morning Sunday you could see the glow of joy on the faces of the volunteers as well as the survivors.

There are a lot of ways that we can bring joy into our lives and the lives of others, but none are more noble than when we set aside our own needs to serve others.

My wife and I have taken up golf.  What a hoot!  I now know what all the fuss is about.  It's addictive isn't it?  We have decided we'd just as soon golf as go out to eat.  We would rather eat at home and go play 18.  I'd like to thank Jim Hamilton and Bob Walther for giving me tips that have really helped.  See you on the links.  Keep me in mind if you have a scramble or something.  Hit em straight!

Fall arrives today and summer will officially be over.  The Fall Festival will be here in only two weeks.  Where does the time go?  It should stay kind of warm for us this week though.  Hopefully we won't get any more Hurricane Ike like winds.  I think everybody's power is back on now.  My wife Laurie is kind of scared of windstorms now.  She doesn't want to use the bathroom in the 5-gallon bucket again.  Yes....we really did that.   Have a great Fall!  Talk to you soon.

Race for the Cure is this Sunday morning and about 19,000 people will gather at Eastland Mall to participate.

Here’s what I like about Race for the Cure: It’s a celebration! People participate as a way of celebrating the lives of those who have survived breast cancer. It doesn’t matter whether they’ve survived 42 years (like Barbara) or they’re just starting treatment (like my friend Margaret), they’re celebrating survival.
